Site supervision of China-U.S. Collaborative Program on Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases
August 2, 2012, Jeffrey McFarland and Patrick Flaherty, officials of the Embassy of the United States health and the supervision group led by Chen Hong, the project manager of China-U.S. Collaborative Program on Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) came to Shenzhen CDC to supervise and assess the work of the EID project on-site, aimed at understanding the implementation and use of funds of the project, also discovering and solving the problems existing in the work, so as to improve the quality of the work and seek more areas of cooperation in the future.
On August 2, the conference of EID project reporting was held in Shenzhen CDC, participants of the conference including the EID project steering group, Zhang Dan, deputy director of Health, Population and Family Planning Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, Lin Hancheng, director of disease control department, Cheng Jinquan, director of Shenzhen CDC, Ma Hanwu, deputy director of Shenzhen CDC, and business backbone of the microbiology laboratory, department of infectious disease prevention and food hygiene.
The conference was hosted by Cheng Jinquan. Zhang Dan made a speech on the conference, he thanked to the EID project for giving the financial and technical support, and emphasized that Shenzhen was facing the threats and challenges of emerging and re-emerging of infectious diseases. He hoped that Shenzhen could cooperate with the United States CDC and China CDC, to expand the EID project in order to promote the ability of dealing with emerging and re-emerging of infectious disease in Shenzhen. Jeffrey McFarland spoke highly of good work of Shenzhen CDC in terms of EID project, he hoped that good cooperative mode could be established between U.S and Shenzhen for infectious disease, in order to provide work experiences and enlightenment in other parts of city in China. Ma Hanwu made a report called as "A survey of the risk factors of intestinal infections by V. parahaemolyticus". The project background, project implementation, the 2011 survey results, the use of funds, challenges and future five year plans were detailed introduced. In order to allow the participants to understand EID project and how to cope with the food-borne disease, Chen Hong introduced the background of EID project, project management and progress, the core areas and work plan for the next step. Jeffrey McFarland introduced the foodborne disease surveillance system of United States. And after the conference, the experts of steering group visited the microbiology laboratory of Shenzhen CDC.
On August 3, the steering group interviewed Longgang CDC, Longgang People's Hospital, Baoan CDC and Xixiang People's Hospital which involved in the project of "A survey of the risk factors of intestinal infections by V. parahaemolyticus" led by Ma Hanwu, they on-site visited and listened to a report. In the afternoon, feedback meeting of the project was hold in Xinxiang People`s Hospital. Ran Lu, professor of China CDC and Patrick Flaherty gave the feedback on behalf of the steering group, they fully affirmed the achieved of "A survey of the risk factors of intestinal infections by V. parahaemolyticus" project, and speak highly of the platform of municipal and district CDC and sentinel point which set up by the sentinel surveillance work of infectious diarrhea in Shenzhen.
