Shenzhen CDC has organized academic exchange programme with Erasmus University Rotterdam
Based on collaboration agreements between Shenzhen CDC and Erasmus University Rotterdam, Prof. ALex Burdorf, Jan Hendrik Richardus, Sake de VlasIn and two phd students visited and Shenzhen CDC, participating in the academic exchange programme in the period from 25th to 29th March 2013.
Erasmus University is a celebrated public research university that is ranked in the top 100 in the world. And the department of Public Health was established in 1969 and has expanded with 130 faculties and staffs. In order to enhance the collaboration with Chinese research institutions, division of Public Health of Erasmus University has developed the collaborative projects with Academy of Military Medical Science (AMMS) and China Scholarship Council in recent years.
During 25th to 27th of March, 3 professors from Erasmus University organized a training course named as methods of public health research. There were over 200 conventioneers participating into the conference who were working in district disease control centre, chronic disease control of Shenzhen, Shenzhen prevention and treatment centre for occupational diseases, Shenzhen entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau, Shenzhen field epidemiology training course and Shenzhen Preventive Medicine Association (SZPMA). The training mainly involves in the measurement of population health, global burden of disease, etiological studies of population health, case analysis of global communicable disease, communicable disease modeling and intervention strategy of population health. Due to the excellent communication, conventioneers get familiar with the international trend of epidemiology, strengthen the knowledge of the related realm and lay a solid foundation for further study and application.
Specialists from Shenzhen CDC discussed with those from Erasmus University in terms of the mutual research collaborative project on 28th -29th in March. The contents of the report are listed as follows:
？ The design of transmission of influenza modeling- by Lu Xing (Microbiology Inspection Divisionand);
？ Regional transmission of influenza in Shenzhen and Hongkong- by Wang Xin (Microbiology Inspection Division);
？ The research modeling of HIV epidemics and intervention among immigration population- by Luo Yijuan (HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Division);
？ The protocol of the study on economic burden of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and the assessment of disease burden in Shenzhen -by Lu Qiuying (Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Division);
？ The Survey of Risk Perceptions and Hand Hygiene Behaviour related to Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease in Shenzhen City- by Hou Wanli (Administrative Division);
？ The protocol of the study on the burden of infectious diarrhea -by Zhang Zhen (Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Division);
？ The assessment of false negative numbers of mumps-by Tang Xiujuan (Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Division).
Dutch professors spoke highly of the quality of the presentation given by staffs in Shenzhen CDC and made suggestions on further studies. Besides, Cai Rui and Liu Xiaona, who are the current phd students of Erasmus University, reported the schedule of collaborative study and discussed with the staffs in the related filed to conduct a cross-sectional study to investigate HIV epidemics among high risk groups (especially those MSM groups) and HIV related knowledge, cognition and behaviours in order to build up a HIV model.
During the visit, professors from the Erasmus University visited historical exhibition hall and they were shown with routine work process under the guidance of director of the key laboratory and had a profound communication with staff in laboratory in terms of the further development and challenges of public health.
Through the communication in a week, Shenzhen CDC has made consensus. Cheng Jinquan, director of Shenzhen CDC, came up with several suggestions:
1. Shenzhen CDC will hold an annual academic exchange programme, for instance, the short-term courses
2. Shenzhen CDC will provide the opportunities for staff to further study in Erasmus University to improve the comprehensive capability of staff in the public health field.
