Environmental Hygiene Division

1. Introduction

Environmental hygiene division currently has seventeen staff in total, of which fourteen formal workers and three temporary workers including six senior titles, five intermediate title, three primary title, and 3 ones without title; graduate and above accounted for 47%, including two doctors, six masters, six undergraduates, and three specialists and the following. The division has appropriate staff age gradient, reasonable personnel structure, and staffs have solid theoretical foundation and rich in work experience. It is equipped with advanced monitoring instruments add up to sixty four, four categories, which are worth about four million Yuan.

In addition to health monitoring on public places, drinking water, indoor environmental hazard factors, and hygiene pre-assessment for public places and central air conditioning system, environmental hygiene division is carrying out some projects such as “national pilot project on drinking water monitoring network in city”, “national pilot project on air pollution and disease monitoring”, national hygiene special project which is “health hazard monitoring and control on environmental key pollutants in China”, and UNDP/GEF project “adapt to climate change to protect human health”.

2. Main Responsibilities

(1)     The division is responsible for monitoring and evaluating public places (including central air conditioning ventilation systems), drinking water, indoor health hazards according to relevant national standards, and norms, and provide technical support;

(2)     Carrying out hygiene pre-assessment for construction projects such as newly built, rebuilt and enlarged public places (including central air conditioning ventilation systems), centralized water supply and so on.

(3)     The division is responsible for operating and guidance of monitoring network on drinking water and water-borne disease, air pollution and disease of Shenzhen; collection, collation, and analysis on environmental health survey and monitoring data timely; carrying out the dynamic and early warning, and submitting work reports regularly, in order to provide technical support on regional environmental planning for government;

(4)     Carrying out emergency disposal and emergency disposal practice on sudden environmental pollution accident and other serious Public health emergencies related to environment, to provide technical support for public safety;

(5)     Developing environmental sanitation standard and specification;

(6)     Carrying out effect evaluation of environmental health control measures, to participate in the environmental impact assessment;

(7)     Combining with environmental health work, the division carrying out project actively, strengthening scientific research and technology innovation, and promote the development of environmental health;

(8)     Providing business guidance, personnel training and business assessment to subordinate institution of disease prevention and control; carrying out popular science education and health promotion on environmental health to the public.
